How did she do it? Mrs. Weingarten threw her fears out the window, and followed her passion. With only her ideas in tow she the streets, sold at trade booths, spread the word all over town, formed relationships with salons that would carry her product, and learned about different markets. Now, Essie, is a household name, and a world wide staple for all women who love ….color!
Where does she get her inspiration? EVERYWHERE! Mrs. Weingarten is simply inspired by all the things she sees while traveling. She could be on a flight, walking through France, or simply sitting in a park. It’s magical.
“It’s a love story and I loved every minute of it. I never went to work,”
It’s been about 35 years since Essie launched, so how did her brand stand the test of time?
” You must always be true to your brand. An entrepreneur lives and breathes their brand. If they think it’s party time and are going to go out every night and tomorrow’s going to be another new day and you can start again, it doesn’t work like that. You really have to be committed to your brand. You have to love what you’re doing, if you don’t, go get a job. This is a full time commitment. [When I was starting out] if I saw a new salon [walking down the street], boom, I was there. That’s the difference between entrepreneurs and someone who has a job. An entrepreneur knows they are going after it and they want it. There is nothing like it. It’s your own destiny, so whatever you put in, you get out.”
