She is a champion… she is a leader, she is one of the greatest athletes of all time.
In a video montage that aired during the BBC’s broadcast of Serena Williams’s historic Wimbledon title on Saturday, Williams recites the poem “Still I Rise” by her favorite poet, the late Maya Angelou.
Yes, it is everything you would imagine it to be: inspiring, moving, chilling and in true Queen Serena fashion, powerful.
The video aired prior to Williams’s 7-5, 6-3 victory over Angelique Kerber in the 2016 Wimbledon final, making this the 22nd major title of her career and her seventh at the All England Club.
In 2015, Williams recited part of the poem at her 2015 Sports Illustrated Sportsperson of the Year acceptance speech.
Watch Serena recite the poem in full above.
